“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Matthew 7:1-2)
We see faults in others long before we see them in ourselves. We judge others more harshly than we judge ourselves.
Beware!
When you look down on your brethren, you are most probably looking in the mirror.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
(Psalm 139:23-24)
Very often, what we dislike in others are the very same attributes we allow and are fond of in ourselves.
I often hear people quote, “You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye” whenever this topic of judging is raised as means of justification that, “see? I can judge!”
If only we took more note of the first part. Yes, we can help take the speck of a brother’s eye but surely the process of taking the log out of my own eye ought to help teach me to be empathetic, caring, patient, reasonable, rational, understanding.
Important reminder. Thank you, brother.
